Extension of the Oreat Northern From Assln-abnine to tbc Summit of the Boekles.

St. Paul, Aug. -t.—The contract for the extension of the Great Northern railroad from Assinaboino to the summit of the Rocky Mountains, 185 miles, has been awarded to Shepherd, Siems & Co. Shep-I ard, Siems & Co. are now busily engaged in ' preparatory measures for active prosecution of the work, which will bo commenced in a fortnight.

Men and horses are being engnt^d and sent to the scene of operutioiiR wicliont df-lay. About 800 teams and 2,000 men will be reipiireil.
